Dustin began working for the Young Adult Conservation Corps at Tree Trust on September, 7 2011.  Dustin’s work consists of landscaping and construction work, which include park improvement projects, year-round maintenance services along the Hennepin County Regional Rail Authority trail system, planting trees and shrubs, and mowing lawns or shoveling snow at foreclosed properties.  In addition to the restoration work, there is an educational component to the program; Dustin spends four hours of his 39-hour work week in Tree Trust’s classroom.  He learns about topics such as tool safety and operation, employment readiness (resumes, interview skills, etc.), and money management. Dustin is also certified in First Aid and OSHA 10-hour safety.

Dustin graduated from the 3-month YACC program this fall and was offered a promotion as an advanced crew member in correlation to the YACC program for another three months.  Dustin has really improved his knowledge in the field of landscaping and restoration and his crew leaders speak very highly of his work ethic and willingness to work in a team environment.  With his recent successes, Dustin has an excellent chance to work as a full-time employee with Tree Trust following his tenure with YACC; or at the very least, gain applicable experience for similar landscaping or labor work outside of Tree Trust.  Community Involvement Programs continues to support Dustin in his quest toward success!
